FIRST LEGO LeagueA global robotics program for kids!
Lego league is so much more than simply playing with Legos! FLL teams embark on an adventurous challenge based on current, real-world issues. In the August- December season, teams build an autonomous robot using engineering concepts that relate to the FLL annual theme and present their work at the Regional Tournament here in Durango. Post-season activities, such as state or global tournaments, could be possible!
The Durango School District 9-R FIRST LEGO League (FLL) program is coordinated by The Powerhouse.

Volunteer-Led teams
Don’t see your school, or want to start another team? The Powerhouse coordinates Lego League for all of Durango 9-R School District, and would be happy to help you get started! Not a Durango 9-R School? We’d still love to have you participate in the tournament.
Have a student interested in participating in a team, click here.
Anyone interested in coaching their own Lego League team should fill out this form.
The Tournament event is held on November 16th.
Each teams needs one adult volunteer who can attend at least 3 practices and the Tournament. The more volunteers we have, the more teams that we can host! Teams consist of up to 10 students.
Powerhouse-led Teams
The Powerhouse, supported by the Durango 9-R School District, is hosting Lego League teams at Animas Valley, Fort Lewis Mesa, and Florida Mesa, and will provide transportation from Sunnyside to Florida Mesa for participants. There will also be an onsite Powerhouse team for early release Monday students. As this is a district supported program, participation is free to 9-R students.
Programs run weekly from September 9-November 22.
Details on days of the week and times are in the registration links below:

Explore
(1st Grade- 3rd Grade)
In Explore, teams of students ages 6-10 focus on the fundamentals of engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn to design, and code, and create unique solutions made with LEGO bricks and powered by LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0. In 12-16 after-school sessions, students will complete their challenges. In 9-R, the season runs in the spring. Schedules of practices will be announced based on volunteer availability.
Challenge
(4th - 8th Grade)
Friendly competition is at the heart of Challenge, as teams of 2-10 students engage in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering – building and programming a LEGO robot that navigates the missions of a robot game. In 12-16 after-school sessions, students will complete their challenges. The season runs August- December. Schedules of practices will be announced based on volunteer availability.
