Incoming 7th-11th graders
The Powerhouse Internship Program helps interns build essential skills like public speaking, communication, time management, and problem-solving. Interns will gain hands-on experience in group management and youth development through our Museum Gallery and Education Programs. Most importantly, we aim to spark and grow their love of curiosity and learning—and inspire the next generation of scientists!
INTERNSHIP LEVELS
SPARK PROGRAM
As a Powerhouse Spark intern, students complete foundational activities such as volunteer gallery shifts, summer camp support, resume development, and other key tasks. Upon completing all Spark requirements, interns graduate to the Ignite program.
IGNITE PROGRAM
As a Powerhouse Ignite intern, students focus on advanced skills like group management and public presentation in addition to volunteer gallery time. Ignite interns participate in formal interview practice, deliver a professional presentation, and prepare two science demonstrations for the gallery floor, among other responsibilities.

Applications are now open for our Summer Internship Program! If you are a rising 7th grader or older, we would love for you to join our education team during summer camps! Interns will learn valuable life skills, receive mentorship from professional educators, and inspire the next generation of young scientists. Applications need to be filled out by April 1st. There will be an optional Intern Program Informational Meeting in the Powerhouse museum gallery at 4:30 on September 9th, 2025. Applicants will be notified via email of invitation to the program by September 19th, and the first intern meeting will be in the museum gallery from 4:30-6:00 on September 23rd.
Year-round Intern Requirements
The Internship program is for 7th-11th graders.
Participate in two monthly intern meetings after school, each lasting approximately 90 minutes.
Volunteer for two 3-hour gallery shifts per month during the school year, totaling around 40 hours between September and May.
Volunteer for three weeks of summer camp (based on availability). Interns aged 14 and older are eligible to receive a stipend for this program.
Contribute to one specialty event per semester, such as single-day camps, Lego League, Destination Imagination, or Snowdown activities.
Engage in quarterly one-on-one check-ins with education or gallery manager during the school year to discuss progress and goals.
Participate in weekly check-ins during summer weeks when actively involved in the program.
