Durango, CO ‐ The Powerhouse wants to support federal employees’ families that have been impacted by the current government shutdown.
Starting January 18th, The Powerhouse will offer free admission to families where a parent or caregiver, who works for the US Government has been furloughed or forced to work without pay due to the current government shutdown as the shutdown continues. To redeem this offer, families only needs to show proof of employment for the US Government in the impacted departments.
Secondly, The Powerhouse will offer all US Government families furloughed or forced to work 50% discounted fee if they wish to attend one of our Holiday Camps or Sudden Science after school programs. Holiday Camps, offered on days when 9‐R schools are closed and Sudden Science programs provides kids with a hands‐on exploration of different science topics. Offer availability is limited as program space is limited. This will be offered on a first come first served basis. Once again to redeem this offer a family only needs to show proof of employment for the US Government in the impacted departments.
Finally, The Powerhouse is offering the same families a free one‐month family membership to the MakerLab. This would allow a family to use all of the equipment for free, including our laser cutter, in accordance to the rules of the MakerLab. The MakerLab is a community workshop that provides workspaces, and tools in the areas of electrical, wood working, metal working, textiles and 3d printing.

About The Powerhouse
Located on the banks of the Animas River in an historic coal‐fired steam‐power AC generating plant, the Powerhouse presents a wide range of programs, exhibits, and activities designed to provide an entertaining and inspiring look at science — past, present, and future.
The Powerhouse’s Science Center is Southwest Colorado’s premier hands‐on, interactive science center for all ages. Open year‐round, the science center is a dynamic place for family adventures, school field trips, early childhood learning, special events, hanging around by the river, messing around with amazing technology, and just plain geeking out.
The Powerhouse’s most recent addition is the Maker Lab, a community facility that offers the ability for members to use a variety of professional and industrial tools and equipment to exercise the build it yourself spirit that Durango is known for.
